Old Culture, New Creation
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
I was raised in a Christian home and didn’t think I needed to experience anything like “new creation” in my life. After all, I’d accepted Jesus as my Savior at an early age, went on to attend church every Sunday, grew up teaching Sunday School occasionally, and was always surrounded by good people. What “old” did I need to put away?
That lingering question betrayed my complacency and took on crucial importance starting the day I was arrested. I was entirely unprepared for what lay ahead. Now I faced the reality of days in jail, sentencing in court, being cut off from family and friends, and the assignment to a prison cell with an inmate who wanted nothing to do with religion.
I am extremely thankful for my parents who raised me with many wonderful church-related experiences. However, it took the shock of a prison sentence to move Christ from my head to my heart. I had known of Jesus for years. But now I know Him personally as my Lord and Savior.
Pray along with me that the Spirit of Christ will continue His transforming work in us.
Written by Stephen R., California State Prison, Corcoran, CA. Please pray that Stephen will grow more and more in his relationship with Jesus.
