My Father’s House
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:3
John 14:2 describes eternal life in the Father’s house, a place of “many rooms.” Try to wrap your mind around the reality of eternity with our Heavenly Father—our Savior—and all believers. What a fellowship that will be!
Jesus promised that one day He will come back and take us to be with Him. His disciples needed this affirmation because when they would see Him give His life on the cross at Calvary, they’d feel utter despair. These words would assure them and us of God’s presence, hope, and comfort.
I was visiting an elderly lady who was in declining health. She’d been thinking much about spiritual matters and said to me, “Pastor, can I really have assurance that I belong to Jesus and will be in heaven?” I showed her 1 John 5:11-13. “I write these things … so that you may know that you have eternal life” (v. 13). We prayed together, and I suggested she write that day’s date in her Bible next to those verses. Neither of us knew that within two weeks, she would leave this earth and enter her Father’s house to be with Him forever.
