What message are you communicating with the title of this book?

Jacob Armstrong: Breaking Open is all about acknowledging a common ache, acknowledging that we all have places of pain, and that it’s actually in acknowledging this ache and facing it that we find the path to true life. As a pastor for 20 years of people of different ages, races, and life experiences, I’ve seen lots of differences in people. Culturally, financially, and politically.

But all the people I’ve had the pleasure to be around have one thing that’s familiar to them; one shared experience. What we all share is an ache. Everybody I’ve ever talked to has this same ache. It’s a longing. And I feel it too.

Real Manhood: How to Create Calm in the Midst of Chaos

Actor Dondré Whitfield explains what real manhood is, based on biblical wisdom as well as hard-earned lessons from someone who's been there.By Dondré Whitfield

A male’s first power is his physicality (i.e., warrior mode), but a Man’s true power is his vocabulary. His vocabulary is like a ring of keys for a locksmith. Each word holds the potential to unlock something in him or in someone else. His words are like a “protein” that builds someone up rather than a “kerosene” that burns someone down.

Every Man is like the firefighter of his home. He is responsible for putting out fires, which creates more calm so that the environment he is in does not turn into a chaotic towering inferno. While his job as a firefighter is to put out fires, he is first responsible for making sure that he himself is not on fire. A Man who is on fire will surely be challenged in not setting his own house on fire. As a firefighter, he has to wear flame-retardant clothing on his spirit to avoid being set on fire himself. He knows that if he is set on fire, he may set other people on fire as well. Remember, you are a firefighter; you are not a firestarter! Your job is to put fires out, not create them!

Now you may say to me, “Man, brother, that sounds good, but how in the world do I do that?”

What Does the Bible Say About the End of the Age?: An Interview with John Hagee

John Hagee explains how end of the age Bible prophecy can be interpreted in light of modern eventsHow can end of the age Bible prophecy be interpreted in light of modern events? What are the ‘last days’ and how does Scripture describe them? How does the book of Daniel, written millennia ago, factor into expecting the world as we know it to end in the future? Is time running out? What is the purpose of the Tribulation?

Bible Gateway interviewed John Hagee (@PastorJohnHagee) about his book, The End of the Age: The Countdown Has Begun (W Publishing Group, 2021).

What does the Bible mean when it speaks of “the age” and how does it foretell of its ending?

John Hagee: Dispensationalism is a series of defined periods, or ages, in history where God’s purpose and assigned stewardship for mankind is found. References to “ages” and “dispensations” are in Scripture and each word carries a different meaning. Whereas “age” has to do with a period of time, “dispensation” refers to an assigned stewardship occurring inside a time or age; either within an age, a complete age, or even a sequence of ages.

On June 17, 2015, Polly Sheppard attended Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. That night, Dylann Roof, a self-professed white supremacist, arrived and spent an hour in the study with his victims before pulling out a gun during prayer time. In all, he shot 12 people, nine of whom lost their lives, including Emanuel AME pastor and State Senator Clementa C. Pinckney. Polly witnessed her friends being gunned down in front of her, and when Dylann reached her, she recalled him saying, “I’m not going to shoot you. I’m going to leave you here to tell the story.”
