So if an old man thought nothing of being tortured to death for the sake of showing God proper respect, without question godly thinking is the commander of the emotions.
If, therefore, because of piety an aged man despised tortures even to death, most certainly devout reason is governor of the emotions.
If, therefore, because of piety an aged man despised tortures even to death, most certainly pious reason is governor of the passions.
