8:24 twenty-five years old. In 4:3, the term of service is listed as from 30 to 50 years old. Rabbinic sources suggest that a five-year apprenticeship was served prior to full service. Alternatively, 4:3 may designate the time when complete responsibility for transporting the tabernacle was undertaken, with lighter duties being assumed at age 25. In 1 Chr. 23:24–26 David lowered the age of Levitical service to 20 because transportation of the tabernacle was no longer necessary.
