7:24–28 Jesus praises John as the greatest of men, cast in the mold of the prophets of Israel and unmoved by expediency or luxury. Yet as a prophet he belonged to an era that was being withdrawn as the kingdom of God was introduced. In this sense he was less than those who were in the kingdom.
