15:11–32 The parable of the prodigal son could be called the “parable of the waiting father.” While the repentance of the son is important to the parable, the father’s willingness to forgive and his unexpected actions (v. 20 note, 22–23) are a striking illustration of the fatherly love of God for wayward human beings.
