2:11–19 These verses give the pattern for chs. 3–16. They show the sovereignty of God in history as He executes the judgment of the covenant. It was He who sold the people and fought against them, and it was He also who raised up the judges to deliver them. Idolatry was the sin on account of which God punished Israel. Vv. 11–19 are elaborated in 1 Sam. 12:9–11 and Ps. 106:34–46.
