12:20 some Greeks. An ironic footnote to the statement of the Pharisees in v. 19. These “Greeks” were probably not Jews of the dispersion (the Greek word is different from that translated “Hellenists” in Acts 6:1). Rather, they were perhaps proselytes or, more probably, Gentile “God-fearers” (as they were called) who participated in synagogue worship but did not undergo circumcision and full reception into the Jewish religion (Acts 8:27; 13:26; 17:4).
