26:12 stilled the sea. God rules the supposed dominion of Yam, the Canaanite god of the sea. Jesus Christ showed He was the true God of His ancient people when He calmed the sea in Matt. 8:23–27.

Rahab. A mystical Canaanite monster of the deep, similar to Leviathan. This poetic imagery enriches the concept of God’s great power over the boisterous sea (Ps. 89:9, 10).
