60:17 gold . . . silver . . . bronze . . . iron. Bronze and iron were important alloys used for making tools and weapons. Each material is replaced by one stronger and more valuable. By analogy, the cultural and social life of the country will be raised beyond what Solomon knew. Whatever the interim fulfillments of this prophecy, it looks ultimately to the splendor of the New Jerusalem (Rev. 21:9–27; see also Ps. 48).
