1:1–4 The prologue introduces the two time periods in God’s speaking to His people: “Long ago” (v. 1) and “these last days” (v. 2). The Son’s coming marks our time period as the “latter days” of salvation promised through the prophets (Jer. 23:20; Hos. 3:5; Mic. 4:1; cf. 1 Cor. 10:11).
