16:4 bread. The people cried for bread and meat (v. 3), and God will give both (v. 8). Manna is called the “bread of the angels” (Ps. 78:25). In John 6:26–58, Jesus calls Himself the true manna (“bread of life”) of which this provision in the wilderness was a symbol and type.
