15:22–17:16 As the Lord leads His people into the wilderness, He tests and delivers them in ways that reveal His purposes. He heals bitter water to show Himself as the Healer (15:22–27), gives manna and quail to show Himself as Provider and the One who establishes rest (Sabbath) for His people (16:1–26), and gives the water of life (17:1–7). Finally, in military victory, it is the Lord Himself who is the ensign of His people (17:15).
