26:5 A wandering Aramean. This verse may refer either to the advanced age of Jacob when he went down to Egypt (Gen. 47:9; cf. 46:30), or to Jacob’s changing circumstances and travels to Aram, back to Canaan, throughout Canaan, and finally to Egypt (Gen. 28:2–5; 29:1; 31:20, 21; 33:18; 35:1, 16, 21; 46:1–28).
