1:7 This explains why trials might be necessary (v. 6; cf. Rom. 5:3, 4; James 1:2–4).
tested by fire. As men use fire to refine precious metals, so God uses trials to distinguish genuine faith from superficial profession, and at the same time to strengthen faith (Job 23:10).
be found to result in praise and glory and honor. The ultimate goal of trials is the reward of glorification (5:1, 4).
at the revelation of Jesus Christ. This is the Second Coming (v. 5; 4:13; 5:1; 1 Cor. 4:3–5).
