5:1 Hiram king of Tyre. Tyre is a city on the Mediterranean coast, now in modern Lebanon. Since Hiram ruled about 980–947 b.c., his reign overlapped both David’s and Solomon’s.
Hiram always loved David. Hiram supplied materials and workers when David built himself a palace (2 Sam. 5:11).
