13:12 I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. Perhaps because the Corinthians liked to boast of their knowledge (8:1 note), Paul concludes by stressing the partial character of all present knowledge. The shift from the active (“know”) to the passive (“have been”) is found elsewhere in the apostle’s letters and serves to emphasize dependence on God’s grace (8:3; Gal. 4:9). Here the focus is on the intimacy and immediacy of God’s knowing, which we will share someday.
