Sirion

SIRION sĭr’ ĭ ən (שִׂרְיֹ֑ן). The Sidonian (Phoen.) name for Mount Hermon (Deut 3:9). It occurs in association with Lebanon in the poetic parallelism of Psalm 29:6.

He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf,
And Sirion like a young wild ox.

The same association occurs in the Ugaritic material.

Lebanon and its trees,
Sirion, the most precious of its cedars.
(Baal and Anath VI 20, 21)

The occurrence of the term in parallelism with the Lebanon range suggests that it was denominative of the whole Anti-Lebanon chain. (See also Sion.)
