Geba

GEBA ge’ bə (גָּ֑בַע, hill, height). KJV GABA, gā be (Josh 18:24; Ezra 2:26; Neh 7:30). A city of Benjamin, NE of Gibeah and E of Gibeon. (Josh 18:24); and assigned to the Levites (Josh 21:17; 1 Chron 6:60). Saul and Jonathan encamped there when the Philistines were at Michmash (1 Sam 13:16; KJV Gibeah). It was there that David began to smite the Philistines 2 Sam 5:25; but cf. 1 Chron 14:16). Asa built a fortress there with stones from Ramah (1 Kings 15:22; 2 Chron 16:6). As the N limit of Judah, Josiah defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense from it to the S limit, Beersheba (2 Kings 23:8). It is coupled with Ramah in the lists of those returning from Babylon (Ezra 2:26; Neh 7:30; KJV GABA), and it is one of the cities where Benjaminites lived after the Exile (Neh 11:31) and from which singers came and sang at the dedication of the Temple (Neh 12:29). It was one of the stopping points of the Assyrian army on its approach to Jerusalem (Isa 10:29). In Judges 20:33 and 1 Samuel 13:3 it may be confused with Gibeah. It is to be identified with modern Jeba, seven m. NE of Jerusalem, and two m. E of Ramah.
