ALEPH ä’ lĕf (א). 1. The first letter of the Heb. alphabet, also the symbol for the number one (1). Placed in the KJV at the head of the first section of the acrostic psalm, Psalm 119, where each v. of the section begins with this letter.

2. The symbol for Codex Sinaiticus, a 4th cent. Biblical MS located in the British Museum.
