Zechariah 6

V 1–8: REVELATION—COMMUNICATION The final vision concerns red, black, white and dappled horses pulling four chariots and going to the north and the south of the country. (The sea and the desert were to the east and the west, and opposition came from the Babylonians in the north and from the Egyptians in the south.) The chariots represent four ‘spirits of heaven’, or angels, who communicate God’s judgement throughout the country and then throughout the earth and underline His sovereignty. After conquest in the north, rest is given there. V 9–15: REBUILDER CROWNED Joshua, prefiguring the ‘BRANCH’ (the Messiah—the Lord Jesus Christ) is to be crowned, thus combining the priesthood with kingship. As such, he is a picture of what will happen in the last days when Jesus Christ, the last High Priest and the King of kings, will reign supreme. God’s temple will be rebuilt.
