Zechariah 4

V 1–14: REVELATION—COMPLETION This vision concerns Zerubbabel, who is the governor. He is to the political life of Judah what Joshua, the priest, is to its spiritual life. The vision encourages him to continue building the temple, which will be completed as a testimony to God’s wonder and grace. God’s Spirit will accomplish this. In this vision of the lamp-stand and two olive trees, the two olive trees represent ‘two anointed ones who stand before the Lord of the whole earth’. It is likely that this refers to Joshua and to Zerubbabel, and confirms the earlier vision as well as this particular one about Zerubbabel. What God starts, God completes.
