Psalm 32

Psalm 32

V 1–2: SINS COVERED There is immense blessedness in having transgression forgiven, sins covered, and no iniquity imputed to the sinner. This removes deceit and guile from the spirit of the forgiven person. V 3–4: SILENT COMPARISON When David has not prayed but kept silent, he has been conscious of groaning and heaviness upon him. Probably this refers to the time after his adultery with Bathsheba and murder by proxy of Uriah (See 2 Samuel 11 and 12). Psalm 51 also is linked to that. V 5: SINCERE CONFESSION God forgives his sin as soon as he confesses it to Him. David follows a good practice and a good principle in not trying to hide his sin from God. V 6–7: SURE CAUSE ‘For this cause’, all should seek God when He can be found, and find in Him a hiding place and preservation from trouble. Deliverance will be accompanied by songs of gratitude. V 8–9: SPIRITUAL COUNSEL The forgiven person begins to understand God’s instructions and is assured of His guidance in walking with the Lord in the way he should go. V 10–11: SORROWFUL CONTRAST Although the wicked will be surrounded by many sorrows, those trusting in God are confident of His surrounding mercy. Joy and rejoicing accompany those who, by God’s grace, are counted righteous and live uprightly.
