Job 8

ss Bildad: 1:

V 1–7: PLEADING AND PURITY Bildad now enters the discussion. He criticises Job, claiming that he is blaming God for not being just. Insensitively, he implies very directly that Job’s sons were killed because they were sinners. He says if Job is pure and will plead, God will answer him. Helpful comfort indeed! V 8–10: HELP FROM HISTORY Bildad claims that those who lived before would endorse his words to Job. V 11–19: NOTE FROM NATURE He looks at illustrations from nature to show cause and effect. He regards Job’s sin as a cause, and his suffering as the effect. Here are misapplied illustrations: this is a warning to any preacher! V 20–22: BLAMELESS AND BLESSED He maintains that blameless people will not be dealt with in the way Job suffers, but that they will be blessed. He says that only the wicked have nowhere to dwell.
