Job 5

V 1–7: HOPELESS AND HELPLESS Just as sparks fly upwards, man’s natural life leads to trouble. He is hopeless and helpless to help himself. No one can help him, not even the angels (‘the holy ones’). V 8–16: APPEAL TO ALMIGHTY Eliphaz tells Job that he would appeal to God who would save Job. Eliphaz does not know the background plot! God will save Job, but not yet. V 17–18: DESPISING GOD’S DISCIPLINE Eliphaz correctly states that a man is happy when corrected by God and that God’s chastening must not be despised. This is true, but of no help to Job at present. V 19–27: EXPERIENCE YOUR ESCAPE Eliphaz tells Job that God will deliver him and that he will experience his escape at the hands of God. This is true, but, again, not yet. God has His timetable for each of His children. Eliphaz is looking for a ‘quick fix’ solution.
