Exodus 6

V 1: PROMISE God renews His promise to Moses that Pharaoh will ultimately drive out Israel from the land. V 2–7: PERSON God reveals to Moses that He is the Lord (or ‘Jehovah’) who appeared to Israel’s forefathers as God Almighty. He will keep His covenant and has heard the groaning of His people. He will rescue and redeem them. They will know that He is their God who takes them from under the Egyptian burdens. V 8: POSSESSION He will give them the promised land. V 9: PRESSURE But the children of Israel are so anguished because of the bondage that they do not heed Moses. Further pressure is thus on the man who never sought leadership of this people in this ‘impossible’ situation. V 10–13: PERPLEXED When God tells Moses to go to Pharaoh again, to tell him to let the Israelites go, Moses is perplexed. Why will Pharaoh listen to him if the children of Israel will not? The Lord answers Moses and Aaron and gives them a command for both Pharaoh and the children of Israel. V 14–27: PEOPLE A catalogue of the people who are with Moses and Aaron is given. V 28–30: PATHETIC We are reminded of Moses’ pathetic response when commanded by God to repeat to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, all that God says to him. Moses cannot conceive how Pharaoh will hear him.
