Exodus 39

V 1–31: CLOTHING The items of the priests’ clothing are described in detail. Each detail is spiritually significant for the priesthood of Christ, for the Christian individually, and for the priesthood of all believers. The ephod (verses 2 to 7), the breastplate (verses 8 to 21), the robe (verses 22 to 26), and the tunics, turbans, short trousers and sashes (verses 27 to 29) are made. On the pure gold crown for the priest is written ‘HOLINESS TO THE LORD’, which is a summary of the whole of the tabernacle, its furniture, its furnishings and its priesthood. All worship of God should always reflect that theme. V 32–41: COMPLETION All the work is completed and brought to Moses. It is God-designed, God-commanded, God-aided, and God-honouring. V 42–43: COMMAND Moses approves all the work, which he inspects and recognises that it is done exactly in accordance with God’s command. Moses pronounces a blessing upon his people.
