V 1–39: GOLD FOR GLORY—THE OVERVIEW All the furniture in this chapter is overlaid with pure gold to speak of the glory of God. Everything here will be found in the holy place, except the ark of the covenant and the mercy seat upon it, which will be in the Most Holy Place. God emphasises this by overlaying everything with gold. V 1–5: GOLD FOR GLORY—THE ARK The ark of the Testimony or the ‘ark of the covenant’ is also to be inlaid with pure gold, as well as overlaid, providing a picture of the nature of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God through and through. Its details are given. V 6–9: GOLD FOR GLORY—THE MERCY SEAT Details of the mercy seat, which was put as a covering over the ark, are given. Two cherubim of beaten gold overspread the mercy seat with their wings. V 10–16: GOLD FOR GLORY—THE SHOWBREAD TABLE Next, the table to be used for the showbread is to be made. Like the ark before it, it is made portable. All the utensils to be placed on the table are also overlaid with gold. V 17–24: GOLD FOR GLORY—THE BRANCHING LAMPSTAND A lamp stand is made from hammered gold with seven lamps, three branching from each side and one in the centre. The wick trimmers and trays are made of pure gold. V 25–29: GOLD FOR GLORY—THE INCENSE BURNING The square altar of incense, also portable, is made. Holy anointing oil and pure incense of sweet spices are also made for it.
