Exodus 11

V 1–10: MIRACULOUS PLAGUES: PLAGUE TEN—FIRSTBORN God tells Moses that after the final plague to come, Pharaoh will drive the Israelites out of Egypt. The Israelites are to talk to the Egyptians, with whom God will give them favour, so that they will receive silver and gold to take with them. Moses’ God-given profile is very great among the Egyptians. Moses tells Pharaoh that all the firstborn in Egypt shall die, including servants and animals, and that there will be a horrendous and unprecedented cry throughout Egypt. Israel will not even hear a dog barking against them. The Egyptians will plead with Moses to leave, and after that they will go out. This time Moses, in great anger, leaves Pharaoh. The Lord confirms to Moses that Pharaoh will not heed him. In fact, after all these wonders, the Lord has hardened Pharaoh’s unrepentant and arrogant heart so that he will not let the Israelites go. (The sending of the tenth miraculous plague on the firstborn is recorded in the next chapter.)
