Esther 10

V 1–2: POWERFUL PEOPLE The Jews become a powerful people in the kingdom of a powerful king. The book of Esther starts with the folly of King Ahasuerus. It ends up, however, with his helping the Jews to escape and prosper. Again, this is evidence of God’s influence, without the specific mention of God. V 3: RESPECTED REPRESENTATIVE Mordecai, the uncompromising Jew who lived wholeheartedly for his people, is now second only to King Ahasuerus, which may be one reason why Ahasuerus makes some good decisions. Mordecai is acclaimed among the Jews, well received by them, ‘seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen’. The influence of this devoted godly man, through his faithful conduct and concern for others, encourages a beautiful, sacrificially compassionate, young queen to act for the good of God’s people. His example stands for us all today, as does that of Queen Esther.
