Deuteronomy 9

V 1–3: SUCCESS God promises success to the Israelites in driving out foreign nations. V 4–6a: SINFULNESS The sinfulness of ungodly nations is the reason why God will drive them out, not the righteousness of His people. V 6b–12: STIFF-NECKED Moses reminds the Israelites of their rebellion ever since leaving Egypt. This was so even while he was in the very act of receiving the Ten Commandments. V 13–21: SALVATION They were saved from God’s wrath against their idolatry in answer to Moses’ prayer and positive action. V 22–24: STUBBORNNESS Their obstinacy has been shown again and again by their repeated rebellion. V 25–29: SUPPLICATION Moses records his prostration before God for forty days and forty nights, in which he prayed for God’s grace on this errant people. His plea was based on God’s remembering His covenant with the nation’s fathers, and on the importance of the Egyptians’ recognition of His true nature and character.
