Deuteronomy 15

V 1–6: CANCELLATION All debts to fellow Israelites have to be cancelled at the end of the seventh year. God will bless those who honour Him in this. V 7–11: COMPASSION The Israelites are to lend open-handedly to their poor brothers, and this is not to diminish as the end of the seventh year as the release of all debts comes nearer. V 12–18: CONSIDERATION When a slave is released after six years, as God commands, the former owner must load him or her generously with as many goods and provisions as his prosperity allows. A slave wanting to stay in the family is to be welcomed back. V 19–23: CARE Care is to be taken both in the selection of first-born animals without defect, for sacrifice, and in where and when and how to eat these animals once they have been sacrificed.
