C. Prayer (1:11-12)

Paul prays that they may be worthy of God’s election. Although NIV translates “count you worthy,” Paul means that God will make them worthy. Paul does not postulate a pious fiction.

Paul also prays that God will bring that election to completion. Both past election and present growth are crucial. They are already children of God; they are to live lives governed by this reality. Thereby, Jesus' name will be glorified and they in turn will be glorified in him. All of this is accomplished through grace.
