3. Response of the villagers (4:39-42)

The story of the conversations at Jacob’s well is brought to a close by an account of wider Samaritan response to Jesus. The villagers, first attracted by the woman’s testimony about Jesus, came to believe for themselves that he was the Savior of the world (not the Savior of the Jews alone). During his subsequent two-day stay with them, even more became believers.
