2. Passover (23:4-8)

Ex 12 gives a detailed account of the observance of the Feast of Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The first month (v.5) was Abib, called Nisan in a later time (cf. Ne 2:1; Est 3:7). It corresponds with the latter part of March and the first part of April. Observance of Passover is to begin at sundown on the fourteenth of that month. The Feast of Unleavened Bread begins on the fifteenth day. Basic activities include the eating of unleavened bread for seven days, holding sacred assemblies on the first and seventh days when no regular work may be performed, and the presentation of offerings during each of the seven days (cf. Nu 28:16-25).
