10. Jotham (27:1-9)

Jotham’s story breaks the pattern of interchange between faithfulness and unfaithfulness in the lives of the past several kings. By accentuating the positive nature of this reign, the author sets up a strong contrast between Jotham and his wicked son, Ahaz. Jotham does not disrupt temple worship, but, on the other hand, he does not promote true religion. Jotham enjoys blessings of building projects and military victory because of his piety.
