1. Jesus and the Twelve in ministry (6:1-13)

Remarkable parallels tie these two episodes together, demonstrating again the closest relationship between Christology and discipleship. This is suggested already in 6:1, with the mention of the disciples accompanying Jesus. At the heart of the Nazareth scene is the question of Jesus' identity and source of authority, which leads to his rejection by the townspeople and the limited character of his ministry among them. The giving of this same authority to the Twelve heads the following passage, together with instructions to risk themselves in faith by taking no provisions. While they enjoy success on their mission, the disciples have Jesus' warning that they, too, will be rejected.
