Zelotes [Zēlō'tēs]—zealous or full of zeal. The surname of Simon, one of the Twelve, also called “The Canaanite” from being a native of Cana (Matt. 10:4; Mark 3:18; Luke 6:15; Acts 1:13). By this epithet he is distinguished from Simon Peter. See SIMON ZELOTES.
