The Census and the Birth of Jesus

2 Now[a] in those days a decree[b] went out from Caesar[c] Augustus[d] to register[e] all the empire[f] for taxes.

Luke 2:4-5

4 So[a] Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth[b] in Galilee to Judea, to the city[c] of David called Bethlehem,[d] because he was of the house[e] and family line[f] of David. 5 He went[g] to be registered with Mary, who was promised in marriage to him,[h] and who was expecting a child.
