Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Thanksgiving Expressed
12 Then you will say on that day,
“(A)I will give thanks to You, Lord;
For although (B)You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away,
And You comfort me.
2 Behold, (C)God is my salvation,
I will (D)trust and not be afraid;
For (E)the Lord God is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.”
3 Therefore you will joyously (F)draw water
From the (G)springs of salvation.
4 And on that day you will (H)say,
“(I)Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name.
(J)Make known His deeds among the peoples;
[a]Make them remember that His name is exalted.”
5 (K)Praise the Lord in song, for He has done [b]glorious things;
Let this be known throughout the earth.
6 (L)Rejoice and shout for joy, you inhabitant of Zion,
For (M)great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.
15 Truth is lacking,
And one who turns aside from evil (A)makes himself a prey.
Now the Lord saw,
And it was [a]displeasing in His sight (B)that there was no justice.
16 And He saw that there was (C)no one,
And was amazed that there was not one to intercede;
Then His (D)own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.
17 He put on (E)righteousness like a breastplate,
And a (F)helmet of salvation on His head;
And He put on (G)garments of vengeance for clothing
And wrapped Himself with (H)zeal as a cloak.
18 (I)According to their deeds, [b]so will He repay:
Wrath to His adversaries, [c]retribution to His enemies;
To the coastlands He will [d]deal [e]retribution.
19 So they will fear the name of the Lord from the (J)west
And His glory from the (K)rising of the sun,
For He will (L)come like a [f]rushing stream
Which the wind of the Lord drives.
20 “A (M)Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those in Jacob who (N)turn from wrongdoing,” declares the Lord.
21 “As for Me, this is My (O)covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My (P)Spirit who is upon you, and My (Q)words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your [g]offspring, nor from the mouth of your [h]offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from now and forever.”
Second Coming Foretold
20 Now He was questioned by the Pharisees (A)as to when the kingdom of God was coming, and He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with [a](B)signs that can be observed; 21 nor will (C)they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is [b]in your midst.”
22 And He said to the disciples, “(D)The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 (E)And they will say to you, ‘Look there,’ or, ‘Look here!’ Do not leave, and do not run after them. 24 (F)For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part [c]of the sky, shines to the other part [d]of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. 25 (G)But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26 (H)And just as it happened (I)in the days of Noah, so will it also be in the days of the Son of Man: 27 people were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, and they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 [e]It was the same as happened in (J)the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, and they were building; 29 but on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and [f]brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 It will be [g]just the same on the day that the Son of Man (K)is revealed. 31 On that day, the one who will be (L)on the [h]housetop, [i]with his goods in the house, must not go down to take them out; and likewise the one in the field must not turn back. 32 (M)Remember Lot’s wife. 33 (N)Whoever strives to [j]save his [k]life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will keep it. 34 I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 (O)There will be two women grinding at the same place; one will be taken and the other will be left. 36 [[l](P)Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left.”] 37 And responding, they *said to Him, “Where, Lord?” And He said to them, “(Q)Where the body is, there also the [m]vultures will be gathered.”
