Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
God’s Abundant Favor to Earth and Man.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.
65 There will be silence [a]before You, and praise in Zion, O God,
And to You the (A)vow will be performed.
2 O You who hear prayer,
To You (B)all [b]men come.
3 [c](C)Iniquities prevail against me;
As for our transgressions, You [d](D)forgive them.
4 How (E)blessed is the one whom You (F)choose and bring near to You
To dwell in Your courts.
We will be (G)satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Your holy temple.
5 By (H)awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O (I)God of our salvation,
You who are the trust of all the (J)ends of the earth and of the farthest [e](K)sea;
6 Who (L)establishes the mountains by His strength,
Being (M)girded with might;
7 Who (N)stills the roaring of the seas,
The roaring of their waves,
And the (O)tumult of the peoples.
8 They who dwell in the (P)ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs;
You make the [f]dawn and the sunset shout for joy.
9 You visit the earth and (Q)cause it to overflow;
You greatly (R)enrich it;
The [g](S)stream of God is full of water;
You prepare their (T)grain, for thus You prepare [h]the earth.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
You [i]settle its ridges,
You soften it (U)with showers,
You bless its growth.
11 You have crowned the year [j]with Your [k](V)bounty,
And Your [l]paths (W)drip with fatness.
12 (X)The pastures of the wilderness drip,
And the (Y)hills gird themselves with rejoicing.
13 The meadows are (Z)clothed with flocks
And the valleys are (AA)covered with grain;
They (AB)shout for joy, yes, they sing.
12 “Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
“(A)Return to Me with all your heart,
And with (B)fasting, weeping and mourning;
13 And (C)rend your heart and not (D)your garments.”
Now return to the Lord your God,
For He is (E)gracious and compassionate,
Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness
And (F)relenting of evil.
14 Who knows (G)whether He will not turn and relent
And leave a (H)blessing behind Him,
Even (I)a grain offering and a drink offering
For the Lord your God?
15 (J)Blow a trumpet in Zion,
(K)Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly,
16 Gather the people, (L)sanctify the congregation,
Assemble the elders,
Gather the children and the nursing infants.
Let the (M)bridegroom come out of his room
And the bride out of her bridal chamber.
17 Let the priests, the Lord’s ministers,
Weep (N)between the porch and the altar,
And let them say, “(O)Spare Your people, O Lord,
And do not make Your inheritance a (P)reproach,
A byword among the nations.
Why should they among the peoples say,
‘(Q)Where is their God?’”
Deliverance Promised
18 Then the Lord [a]will be (R)zealous for His land
And [b]will have (S)pity on His people.
19 The Lord [c]will answer and say to His people,
“Behold, I am going to (T)send you grain, new wine and oil,
And you will be satisfied in full with [d]them;
And I will (U)never again make you a reproach among the nations.
20 “But I will remove the (V)northern army far from you,
And I will drive it into a parched and desolate land,
And its vanguard into the (W)eastern sea,
And its rear guard into the (X)western sea.
And its (Y)stench will arise and its foul smell will come up,
For it has done great things.”
The Magnificat
46 And Mary said:
“(A)My soul [a](B)exalts the Lord,
47 And (C)my spirit has rejoiced in (D)God my Savior.
48 “For (E)He has had regard for the humble state of His [b]bondslave;
For behold, from this time on all generations will count me (F)blessed.
49 “For the Mighty One has done great things for me;
And holy is His name.
50 “(G)And His mercy is [c]upon generation after generation
Toward those who fear Him.
51 “(H)He has done [d]mighty deeds with His arm;
He has scattered those who were proud in the [e]thoughts of their heart.
52 “He has brought down rulers from their thrones,
And has (I)exalted those who were humble.
53 “(J)He has filled the hungry with good things;
And sent away the rich empty-handed.
54 “He has given help to Israel His servant,
[f]In remembrance of His mercy,
55 (K)As He spoke to our fathers,
(L)To Abraham and his [g]descendants forever.”
