Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Security of the One Who Trusts in the Lord.
91 He who dwells in the (A)shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the (B)shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, “My (C)refuge and my (D)fortress,
My God, in whom I (E)trust!”
3 For it is He who delivers you from the (F)snare of the trapper
And from the deadly (G)pestilence.
4 He will (H)cover you with His pinions,
And (I)under His wings you may seek refuge;
His (J)faithfulness is a (K)shield and bulwark.
14 “(A)Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will (B)set him securely on high, because he has (C)known My name.
15 “He will (D)call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in [a]trouble;
I will rescue him and (E)honor him.
16 “With [b]a (F)long life I will satisfy him
And [c](G)let him see My salvation.”
False Prophets Denounced
9 As for the prophets:
My (A)heart is broken within me,
All my bones tremble;
I have become like a drunken man,
Even like a man overcome with wine,
Because of the Lord
And because of His holy words.
10 For the land is full of (B)adulterers;
For the land (C)mourns because of the curse.
The (D)pastures of the wilderness have dried up.
Their course also is evil
And their might is not right.
11 “For (E)both prophet and priest are polluted;
Even in My house I have found their wickedness,” declares the Lord.
12 “Therefore their way will be like (F)slippery paths to them,
They will be driven away into the (G)gloom and fall down in it;
For I will bring (H)calamity upon them,
The year of their punishment,” declares the Lord.
13 “Moreover, among the prophets of Samaria I saw an (I)offensive thing:
They (J)prophesied by Baal and (K)led My people Israel astray.
14 “Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a (L)horrible thing:
The committing of (M)adultery and walking in falsehood;
And they strengthen the hands of (N)evildoers,
So that no one has turned back from his wickedness.
All of them have become to Me like (O)Sodom,
And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.
15 “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets,
‘Behold, I am going to (P)feed them wormwood
And make them drink poisonous water,
For from the prophets of Jerusalem
Pollution has gone forth into all the land.’”
16 Thus says the Lord of hosts,
“(Q)Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you.
They are (R)leading you into futility;
They speak a (S)vision of their own [a]imagination,
Not (T)from the mouth of the Lord.
17 “They keep saying to those who (U)despise Me,
‘The Lord has said, “(V)You will have peace”’;
And as for everyone who walks in the (W)stubbornness of his own heart,
They say, ‘(X)Calamity will not come upon you.’
18 “But (Y)who has stood in the council of the Lord,
That he should see and hear His word?
Who has given (Z)heed to [b]His word and listened?
19 “Behold, the (AA)storm of the Lord has gone forth in wrath,
Even a whirling tempest;
It will swirl down on the head of the wicked.
20 “The (AB)anger of the Lord will not turn back
Until He has (AC)performed and carried out the purposes of His heart;
(AD)In the last days you will clearly understand it.
21 “(AE)I did not send these prophets,
But they ran.
I did not speak to them,
But they prophesied.
22 “But if they had (AF)stood in My council,
Then they would have (AG)announced My words to My people,
And would have turned them back from their evil way
And from the evil of their deeds.
8 I (A)am not speaking this as a command, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity of your love also. 9 For you know (B)the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (C)though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 10 I (D)give my opinion in this matter, for this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin (E)a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it. 11 But now finish [a]doing it also, so that just as there was the (F)readiness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability. 12 For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable (G)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality— 14 at this present time your abundance being a supply for (H)their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for (I)your need, that there may be equality; 15 as it is written, “(J)He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had no lack.”
