Jeremiah 2:4-13

Hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel.

Thus saith the Lord, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone [a]far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become [b]vain?

For they said not, Where is the Lord that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a desert, and waste land, through a dry land, and by [c]the shadow of death, by a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof, and the commodities of the same: but when ye entered, ye defiled [d]my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

The priests said not, [e]Where is the Lord? and they that should minister the [f]Law, knew me not: the [g]pastors also offended against me, and the prophets prophesied in [h]Baal, and went after things that did not profit.

Wherefore I will yet [i]plead with you, saith the Lord, and I will plead with your children’s children.

10 For go ye to the isles of [j]Chittim, and behold, and send unto [k]Kedar, and take diligent heed, and see whether there be such things.

11 Hath any nation changed their gods, which yet are no gods? but my people have changed their [l]glory, for that which doth not [m]profit.

12 O ye [n]heavens, be astonied at this: be afraid and utterly confounded, saith the Lord.

13 For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me [o]the fountain of living waters, to dig them pits, even broken pits that can hold no water.

Psalm 81:1

81 1 An exhortation to praise God both in heart and voice for his benefits, 8 and to worship him only. 11 God condemneth their ingratitude, 12 and showeth what great benefit they have lost through their own malice.

To him that excelleth upon [a]Gittith. A Psalm committeth to Asaph.

Sing [b]joyfully unto God our strength: sing loud unto the God of Jacob.

Psalm 81:10-16

10 (For I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt:) [a]open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 But my people would not hear my voice, and Israel would none of me,

12 So I gave them up unto the hardness of their heart, and they have walked in their own counsels.

13 [b]Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!

14 I would soon have humbled their enemies, and turned mine hand [c]against their adversaries.

15 The haters of the Lord should have been subject unto him, and their time [d]should have endured forever.

16 And God would have fed them with the [e]fat of wheat, and with honey out of the rock would I have sufficed thee.

Hebrews 13:1-8

13 1 He giveth good lessons not only for manners, 7 but also for doctrine.

Let (A)[a]brotherly love continue.

(B)Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have (C)received Angels into their houses unawares.

Remember them that are in bonds, as though ye were bound with them: and them that are in affliction, as [b]if ye were also afflicted in the body.

[c]Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

[d]Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with those things that ye have, for [e]he hath said,

(D)I will not fail thee, neither forsake thee:

So that we may boldly say, (E)The Lord is mine helper, neither will I fear what [f]man can do unto me.

[g]Remember them which have the oversight of you, which have declared unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering what hath been the end of their conversation. [h]Jesus Christ yesterday, and today, the same also is forever.

Hebrews 13:15-16

15 [a]Let us therefore by him offer the sacrifice of praise always to God, that is, the (A)fruit of the lips, which confess his Name.

16 To do good, and to distribute forget not: for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Luke 14:1

14 The dropsy healed on the Sabbath. 8 The chief place: at banquets. 12 The poor must be called to our feasts. 16 Of those that were bid to the great supper. 23 Some compelled to come in. 28 One about to build a tower.

And [a]it came to pass that when he was entered into the house of [b]one of the chief Pharisees on the Sabbath day, to eat bread, they watched him.

Luke 14:7-14

[a]He spake also a parable to the guests, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms, and said unto them,

When thou shalt be bidden of any man to a wedding, set not thyself down in the chiefest place, lest a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him,

And he that bade both him and thee, come, and say to thee, Give this man room, and thou then begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 (A)But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room, that when he that bade thee, cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, sit up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at table with thee.

11 (B)For whosoever exalteth himself, shall be brought low, and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

12 [b]Then said he also to him that had bidden him, (C)When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor the rich neighbors, lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind,

14 And thou shalt be blessed, because they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
