Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
8 You removed a (A)vine from Egypt;
You (B)drove out the [a]nations and (C)planted it.
9 You (D)cleared the ground before it,
And it (E)took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shadow,
And [b]the cedars of God with its (F)branches.
11 It was sending out its branches (G)to the sea
And its shoots to the Euphrates River.
12 Why have You (H)broken down its [c]hedges,
So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?
13 A boar from the forest (I)eats it away,
And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.
14 God of armies, do (J)turn back;
(K)Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,
15 The [d](L)shoot which Your right hand has planted,
And of the [e]son whom You have [f]strengthened for Yourself.
16 It is (M)burned with fire, it is cut down;
They perish from the (N)rebuke of Your face.
17 Let (O)Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,
Upon the son of man whom You (P)made strong for Yourself.
18 Then we will not (Q)turn back from You;
(R)Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
19 Lord God of armies, (S)restore us;
Make Your face shine upon us, [g]and we will be saved.
5 Come, (A)house of Jacob, and let’s walk in the (B)light of the Lord.
6 For You have (C)abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob,
Because they are filled with influences from the east,
And they are soothsayers (D)like the Philistines.
They also [a](E)strike bargains with the children of foreigners.
7 Their land has also been filled with silver and gold
And there is no end to their treasures;
Their land has also been filled with (F)horses,
And there is no end to their chariots.
8 Their land has also been (G)filled with idols;
They worship the (H)work of their hands,
That which their fingers have made.
9 So (I)the common person has been humbled
And the person of importance has been brought low,
But (J)do not forgive them.
10 (K)Enter the rocky place and hide in the dust
(L)From the terror of the Lord and from the splendor of His majesty.
11 The [b](M)proud look of humanity will be brought low,
And the (N)arrogance of people will be humbled;
And the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.
Christ or Judgment
26 For if we go on (A)sinning willfully after receiving (B)the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of (C)judgment and (D)the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28 (E)Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 (F)How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve (G)who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean (H)the blood of the covenant (I)by which he was sanctified, and has (J)insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “(K)Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “(L)The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a (M)terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the (N)living God.
