Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Lord a Refuge and Defense.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
11 In the Lord I (A)take refuge;
How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your (B)mountain;
2 For, behold, the wicked (C)bend the bow,
They [a](D)make ready their arrow upon the string
To (E)shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.
3 If the (F)foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?”
4 The Lord is in His (G)holy temple; the [b]Lord’s (H)throne is in heaven;
His (I)eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men.
5 The Lord (J)tests the righteous and (K)the wicked,
And the one who loves violence His soul hates.
6 Upon the wicked He will (L)rain [c]snares;
(M)Fire and brimstone and (N)burning wind will be the portion of (O)their cup.
7 For the Lord is (P)righteous, (Q)He loves [d]righteousness;
The upright will (R)behold His face.
14 (A)They raise their voices, they shout for joy;
They cry out from the [a]west concerning the majesty of the Lord.
15 Therefore (B)glorify the Lord in the [b]east,
The (C)name of the Lord, the God of Israel,
In the [c](D)coastlands of the sea.
16 From the (E)ends of the earth we hear songs, “(F)Glory to the Righteous One,”
But I say, “[d](G)Woe to me! [e]Woe to me! Alas for me!
The (H)treacherous deal treacherously,
And the treacherous deal very treacherously.”
17 (I)Terror and pit and snare
[f]Confront you, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 Then it will be that he who flees the [g]report of disaster will fall into the pit,
And he who [h]climbs out of the pit will be caught in the snare;
For the (J)windows [i]above are opened, and the (K)foundations of the earth shake.
19 (L)The earth is broken asunder,
The earth is (M)split through,
The earth is shaken violently.
20 The earth (N)reels to and fro like a drunkard
And it totters like a [j]shack,
For its (O)transgression is heavy upon it,
And it will fall, (P)never to rise again.
21 So it will happen in that day,
That the Lord will (Q)punish the host of [k]heaven on high,
And the (R)kings of the earth on earth.
22 They will be gathered together
Like (S)prisoners in the [l]dungeon,
And will be confined in prison;
And after many days they will (T)be punished.
23 Then the (U)moon will be abashed and the sun ashamed,
For the (V)Lord of hosts will reign on (W)Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
And His glory will be before His elders.
41 Peter said, “Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or (A)to everyone else as well?” 42 And (B)the Lord said, “(C)Who then is the faithful and sensible (D)steward, whom his master will put in charge of his [a]servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? 43 Blessed is that (E)slave whom his [b]master finds so doing when he comes. 44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master [c]will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk; 46 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47 And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will (F)receive many lashes, 48 but the one who did not (G)know it, and committed deeds worthy of [d]a flogging, will receive but few. (H)From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.
