Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Prayer for God’s Mercy upon the Nation.
For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
85 O Lord, You showed (A)favor to Your land;
You [a](B)restored the captivity of Jacob.
2 You (C)forgave the iniquity of Your people;
You (D)covered all their sin. [b]Selah.
3 You (E)withdrew all Your fury;
You (F)turned away from Your burning anger.
4 (G)Restore us, O God of our salvation,
And (H)cause Your indignation toward us to cease.
5 Will (I)You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to [c]all generations?
6 Will You not Yourself [d](J)revive us again,
That Your people may (K)rejoice in You?
7 Show us Your lovingkindness, O Lord,
And (L)grant us Your salvation.
8 [e]I will hear what God the Lord will say;
For He will (M)speak peace to His people, [f]to His godly ones;
But let them not (N)turn back to [g]folly.
9 Surely (O)His salvation is near to those who [h]fear Him,
That (P)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (Q)Lovingkindness and [i]truth have met together;
(R)Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 [j]Truth (S)springs from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 Indeed, (T)the Lord will give what is good,
And our (U)land will yield its produce.
13 (V)Righteousness will go before Him
And will make His footsteps into a way.
11 And the (A)sons of Judah and the sons of Israel will be (B)gathered together,
And they will appoint for themselves (C)one leader,
And they will go up from the land,
For great will be the day of Jezreel.
Israel’s Unfaithfulness Condemned
2 [a]Say to your brothers, “[b]Ammi,” and to your sisters, “[c]Ruhamah.”
2 “Contend with your mother, (D)contend,
For she is (E)not my wife, and I am not her husband;
And let her put away her (F)harlotry from her face
And her adultery from between her breasts,
3 Or I will strip her (G)naked
And expose her as on the (H)day when she was born.
I will also (I)make her like a wilderness,
Make her like desert land
And slay her with (J)thirst.
4 “Also, I will have no compassion on her children,
Because they are (K)children of harlotry.
5 “For their mother has (L)played the harlot;
She who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For she said, ‘(M)I will go after my lovers,
Who (N)give me my bread and my water,
My wool and my flax, my (O)oil and my drink.’
6 “Therefore, behold, I will (P)hedge up [d]her way with (Q)thorns,
And I will build [e]a wall against her so that she cannot find her (R)paths.
7 “She will (S)pursue her lovers, but she will not overtake them;
And she will seek them, but will not find them.
Then she will say, ‘(T)I will go back to my (U)first husband,
For it was (V)better for me then than now!’
8 “For she does (W)not know that it was (X)I who gave her the grain, the new wine and the oil,
And lavished on her silver and gold,
Which they [f]used for Baal.
9 “Therefore, I will (Y)take back My grain at [g]harvest time
And My new wine in its season.
I will also take away My wool and My flax
Given to cover her nakedness.
10 “And then I will (Z)uncover her lewdness
In the sight of her lovers,
And no one will rescue her out of My hand.
11 “I will also (AA)put an end to all her gaiety,
Her (AB)feasts, her (AC)new moons, her sabbaths
And all her festal assemblies.
12 “I will (AD)destroy her vines and fig trees,
Of which she said, ‘These are my wages
Which my lovers have given me.’
And I will (AE)make them a forest,
And the (AF)beasts of the field will devour them.
13 “I will punish her for the (AG)days of the Baals
When she used to [h](AH)offer sacrifices to them
And (AI)adorn herself with her [i]earrings and jewelry,
And follow her lovers, so that she (AJ)forgot Me,” declares the Lord.
Restoration of Israel
14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her,
(AK)Bring her into the wilderness
And speak [j]kindly to her.
15 “Then I will give her her (AL)vineyards from there,
And (AM)the valley of Achor as a door of hope.
And she will [k](AN)sing there as in the days of her youth,
As in the (AO)day when she came up from the land of Egypt.
Jesus Stills the Sea
22 (A)Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side of (B)the lake.” So they launched out. 23 But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on (C)the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger. 24 They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “(D)Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and (E)rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and [a]it became calm. 25 And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?”
