Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
ג GIMEL
17 (A)Deal bountifully with Your servant,
That I may live and keep Your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.
19 (B)I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.
20 (C)My soul [a]breaks with longing
For Your judgments at all times.
21 You rebuke the proud—the cursed,
Who stray from Your commandments.
22 (D)Remove from me reproach and contempt,
For I have kept Your testimonies.
23 Princes also sit and speak against me,
But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.
24 Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.
ד DALETH
25 (E)My soul clings to the dust;
(F)Revive me according to Your word.
26 I have declared my ways, and You answered me;
(G)Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts;
So (H)shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.
28 (I)My soul [b]melts from [c]heaviness;
Strengthen me according to Your word.
29 Remove from me the way of lying,
And grant me Your law graciously.
30 I have chosen the way of truth;
Your judgments I have laid before me.
31 I cling to Your testimonies;
O Lord, do not put me to shame!
32 I will run the course of Your commandments,
For You shall (J)enlarge my heart.
5 The Lord God of hosts,
He who touches the earth and it (A)melts,
(B)And all who dwell there mourn;
All of it shall swell like [a]the River,
And subside like the River of Egypt.
6 He who builds His (C)layers[b] in the sky,
And has founded His strata in the earth;
Who (D)calls for the waters of the sea,
And pours them out on the face of the earth—
(E)The Lord is His name.
7 “Are you not like the [c]people of Ethiopia to Me,
O children of Israel?” says the Lord.
“Did I not bring up Israel from the land of Egypt,
The (F)Philistines from (G)Caphtor,[d]
And the Syrians from (H)Kir?
8 “Behold, (I)the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom,
And I (J)will destroy it from the face of the earth;
Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,”
Says the Lord.
9 “For surely I will command,
And will [e]sift the house of Israel among all nations,
As grain is sifted in a sieve;
(K)Yet not the smallest [f]grain shall fall to the ground.
10 All the sinners of My people shall die by the sword,
(L)Who say, ‘The calamity shall not overtake nor confront us.’
Israel Will Be Restored
11 “On(M) that day I will raise up
The [g]tabernacle of David, which has fallen down,
And [h]repair its damages;
I will raise up its ruins,
And rebuild it as in the days of old;
12 (N)That they may possess the remnant of (O)Edom,[i]
And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,”
Says the Lord who does this thing.
13 “Behold, (P)the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“When the plowman shall overtake the reaper,
And the treader of grapes him who sows seed;
(Q)The mountains shall drip with sweet wine,
And all the hills shall flow with it.
14 (R)I will bring back the captives of My people Israel;
(S)They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them;
They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them;
They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them.
15 I will plant them in their land,
(T)And no longer shall they be pulled up
From the land I have given them,”
Says the Lord your God.
Rejected by His Own
41 The Jews then [a]complained about Him, because He said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” 42 And they said, (A)“Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, [b]“Do not murmur among yourselves. 44 (B)No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me (C)draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, (D)‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ (E)Therefore everyone who [c]has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. 46 (F)Not that anyone has seen the Father, (G)except He who is from God; He has seen the Father. 47 Most assuredly, I say to you, (H)he who believes [d]in Me has everlasting life. 48 (I)I am the bread of life. 49 (J)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 (K)This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread (L)which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and (M)the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
