Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
7 Thus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8 And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass over them any more:
9 And the altars of Isaac shall be destroyed, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise upon the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10 ¶ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words.
11 For thus hath Amos said, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
12 And Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and eat thy bread there, and prophesy there:
13 but do not prophesy any more in Bethel: for it is the king’s sanctuary, and the head of the kingdom.
14 Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I am not a prophet, neither am I a prophet’s son, but I am a herdsman and a gatherer of sycamore fruit:
15 and the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Do not prophesy against Israel and do not drop thy word against the house of Isaac.
17 Therefore thus hath the LORD said; Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by lots; and thou shalt die in a polluted land; and Israel shall surely go into captivity from his land.
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 ¶ God stands in the congregation of the mighty; he judges among the gods.
2 How long will ye judge unjustly and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3 Do right concerning the poor and fatherless; do justice to the poor and destitute.
4 Deliver the poor and destitute; deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They do not know, neither do they understand; they walk in darkness; they move all the foundations of the earth.
6 ¶ I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are sons of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men and fall like one of the tyrants.
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth, for thou shalt inherit all the Gentiles.
1 ¶ Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
2 to the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 ¶ We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you
4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the charity which ye have toward all the saints,
5 for the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, of which ye have already heard by the word of the truth of the gospel,
6 which is come unto you, as it is in all the world, and brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day ye heard it and knew the grace of God in truth,
7 as ye also learned of Epaphras, our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ,
8 who also declared unto us your charity in the Spirit.
9 ¶ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, asking that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding,
10 that ye might walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing him in everything, being fruitful in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God,
11 strengthened with all might, according to the power of his glory unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness,
12 ¶ giving thanks unto the Father, who has made us worthy to participate in the inheritance of the saints in light,
13 who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son,
14 in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the remission of sins,
25 ¶ And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? How readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength and with all thy understanding, and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right; do this, and thou shalt live.
29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment and wounded him and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And it so happened that a certain priest came down that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he came near the place and looked on him, he passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion
34 and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two denarius and gave them to the host and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go and do thou likewise.
