God Stands in Judgment
A Psalm of Asaph.
82 God takes His (A)stand in the congregation of [a]God;
He (B)judges in the midst of [b](C)gods.
2 How long will you (D)judge unrighteously
And (E)show partiality to the wicked? [c]Selah.
3 (F)Give justice to the poor and the orphan;
Justify the afflicted and destitute.
4 (G)Protect the poor and needy;
Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They (H)do not know and do not understand;
They (I)walk about in darkness;
All the (J)foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 [d]I (K)said, “You are gods,
And all of you are (L)sons of the Most High.
7 Nevertheless (M)you will die like men
And you will fall like any (N)one of the princes.”
8 (O)Arise, O God, (P)judge the earth!
For it is You who (Q)will inherit all the nations.
12 “But you made the Nazirites drink wine,
And you commanded the prophets saying, ‘You (A)shall not prophesy!’
13 Behold, I am [a](B)weighted down beneath you
As a wagon [b]is weighted down when filled with sheaves.
14 (C)So [c]flight will perish from the swift,
And the strong will not instill his power with courage,
Nor will the (D)mighty man make his [d]life escape.
15 He who (E)grasps the bow will not stand his ground,
The swift of foot will not escape,
Nor will he who rides the (F)horse make his [e]life escape.
16 Even the [f]most courageous of heart among the mighty men will (G)flee naked in that day,” declares Yahweh.
Yahweh Speaks Against Israel
3 Hear this word which Yahweh has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire [g](H)family which [h]He brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
2 “(I)You only have I known among all the families of the earth;
Therefore I will [i](J)punish you for all your iniquities.”
3 Do two men walk together unless they have made an [j]appointment?
4 Does a (K)lion roar in the forest when it has no prey?
Does a young lion give forth its voice from its den unless it has captured something?
5 Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground when there is no [k]bait in it?
Does a trap spring up from the earth when it captures nothing at all?
6 If a (L)trumpet is blown in a city will not the people tremble?
If a (M)calamity happens in a city has not Yahweh done it?
7 [l]Surely Lord Yahweh does nothing
Unless He (N)reveals His secret counsel
To His slaves the prophets.
8 A (O)lion has roared! Who will not fear?
(P)Lord Yahweh has spoken! (Q)Who can but prophesy?
16 “For God [a]so (A)loved the world, that He (B)gave His [b](C)only begotten Son, that whoever (D)believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God (E)did not send the Son into the world (F)to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 (G)He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of (H)the [c]only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment, that (I)the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for (J)their deeds were evil. 20 (K)For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light lest his deeds be exposed. 21 But he who (L)practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been done by God.”
